A former Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl champion is on the move again.
Kenny Pickett, Jalen Hurts’ backup during the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX run, was traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night.
The Browns sent Pickett to the Raiders in exchange for a fifth-round pick — the same pick value the Eagles received when they traded Pickett to Cleveland in March.
This is the third time Pickett has been traded since being taken No. 20 overall by the Steelers in the 2022 NFL draft. He joins Sam Howell as the only players over the last 30 seasons to be traded three or more times within their first four NFL seasons, per NFL Research.
Pickett joined the Eagles last offseason looking for a fresh start after a tumultuous finish in Pittsburgh. He backed up Hurts, played well in limited action after Hurts sustained a minor injury and took the final snaps of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LIX win over the Chiefs.
Pickett was a valued teammate during the 2024 season. That was evident during the Eagles’ joint practices this summer with the Browns. Pickett spent a lot of time catching up with Saquon Barkley, Lane Johnson and others throughout the two days at the NovaCare Complex.
Pickett was dealt to Cleveland in a move that gave him a shot to start again in the NFL. The New Jersey native and former Pitt star was an early favorite in the Browns’ QB battle. But a hamstring injury in camp sidelined him enough to allow Joe Flacco to take a commanding lead.
With Flacco and rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel in tow, Pickett was deemed expendable. The Raiders had a need at quarterback after Aidan O’Connell, the backup to Geno Smith, suffered a fractured wrist in the preseason finale.
