Aston Villa offer ends up ‘in the trash’ – Last week’s bid has not been increased

Aston Villa’s attempt to land Geny Catamo has been dismissed outright by Sporting. According toA Bola journalist Hugo Forte, the Premier League side put forward an offer worth €18m plus €2m in bonuses last week, but the proposal was sent “to the trash” by the Lisbon club.

Sporting are understood to be demanding at least €25m for the Mozambique international, who has started every game so far this season. With Aston Villa unwilling to raise their bid, the matter has effectively been closed for now.

Catamo’s contract situation continues to play in Sporting’s favour. Having secured 90% of his rights earlier this year, the club are in no rush to sell and are instead preparing a salary revision to better reflect his role in the squad.

While Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray have also been credited with interest, neither came close to Sporting’s valuation. Unless offers closer to the €25-30m range arrive, Catamo looks set to remain at Alvalade.
