The New York Knicks would love to keep Mitchell Robinson, but they want to be careful about any plans.
They know his history and tendency to get hurt, and so they need to consider that with the decisions they make.
James L. Edwards III is reporting that the Knicks would be willing to sign Robinson to a “team-friendly extension” that covers them in case he continues to get hurt.
So, what is “team-friendly,” and will it be enough for Robinson to sign on the dotted line?

It’s been a long time since Robinson has played more than 70 games in a season.
Last year, he only participated in 17 matches, averaging 5.1 points and 5.9 rebounds during that time.
The year before that, it was only 31 games, and just 59 in the season before that.
Robinson has a tough time staying healthy, and the Knicks have had to work around that.
They have made changes and trades that brought them support to the frontcourt, but that means that Robinson simply isn’t as important as he used to be.
They would like to keep him around because they know he can contribute when he is in good shape, but his health remains a major question mark.
The problem is that the Knicks’ idea of “team-friendly” might not line up with what Robinson wants.
He may desire a better extension than what the Knicks offer.
However, his value on the trade market has been harmed by his multiple injuries.
So, he might not be able to find a deal better than whatever the Knicks put forward, even if it’s not perfect for him.
What will New York bring to the table, and will Robinson agree to it?
