PSV identify Napoli-linked Man Utd target as‘perfect candidate’for‘ambitious’swoop,‘preparing to open talks…’

PSV Eindhoven could be ready to challenge defending Serie A champions Napoli in the race to sign one Manchester United star this summer, according to reports.

Ruben Amorim still has time to offload Manchester United first-team players who are surplus to requirements at Old Trafford before the transfer window slams shut.

The 40-year-old United manager has seen a boost to his attacking options this summer with the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Ruben Amorim is also building for the long-term future at the Premier League club and the Red Devils also welcomed the arrival of Paraguayan wonderkid Diego Leon.

Despite Ineos’ summer spending spree on forward options, the Red Devils have still been tipped to potentially sign a new shot-stopper and a midfielder in the window.

However, United still need to clear out players who are on the chopping block under Amorim, including the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Why PSV Eindhoven are now interested in signing Napoli-linked Joshua Zirkzee from Man Utd

Joshua Zirkzee’s long-term future at Manchester United remains uncertain after the arrival of Benjamin Sesko, with Rasmus Hojlund also facing the axe at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old Dutchman failed to impress in his debut campaign at United after his 2024 move from Bologna and Joshua Zirkzee could now be shown the door.

According to CaughtOffside, PSV Eindhoven are open to ‘considering an ambitious move’ for the out-of-favour United and Netherlands striker this summer.

Alassane Pléa will be out of action for the foreseeable future after sustaining cartilage damage in his knee.

Unfortunately, PSV does not expect the 32-year-old striker to be available for the remainder of the first half of the season and possibly a part of the second half.

The Eredivisie outfit’s interest in Zirkzee has intensified after Alassane Plea suffered a “serious” knee injury in PSV’s 2-0 away win over FC Twente earlier this month.

PSV’s official website confirmed that the club are expected to be without Alassane Plea for the first half of the 2025-26 season as well as “part of” the second half.

CaughtOffside reports that PSV believe that Zirkzee is a ready-made replacement for the 32-year-old injured French forward until Plea’s return from the sidelines in 2026.

PSV Eindhoven’s transfer approach for Joshua Zirkzee and Napoli’s interest in the Man Utd striker

It is believed that Joshua Zirkzee has been viewed as the ‘perfect candidate’ for PSV Eindhoven and the Dutch club are now ‘preparing to open talks’ over a transfer.

CaughtOffside claims that the Eredivisie club would explore a ‘potential loan deal’ for Netherlands international Zirkzee, who is under contract with United until 2029.

It has been added that ‘no official approach’ has been made from PSV so far, but the Dutch side have a ‘plan’ that is ‘clear’ after the injury blow to Alassane Plea.

However, PSV could face a battle to sign Zirkzee from United amid Napoli’s interest, with the Italian club now looking for a replacement for the injured Romelu Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku suffered a torn quad muscle and the former United striker could be sidelined for around three months, with Antonio Conte now keen on landing Zirkzee.
