Texans Make Contract Decision on Former Pro Bowler Trent Brown

Former Pro Bowl OL Trent Brown will have to find a new home this season to hang his cleats as he has been released by the Houston Texans.

After the Houston Texans signed the veteran offensive tackle earlier this year in March, deciding to part ways with him ahead of the 2025 season.

Injuries have plagued him in recent memory and more recently he was dealt a season ending injury after only suiting up to play three games for the Cincinnati Bengals last season.

Brown signed with Houston to provide depth and experience on the offensive line, but his stint with the team ends before he even gets a chance to make an impact in the regular season. The decision comes as the Texans continue to shape their roster around a younger core, with a focus on protecting franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud in the long term.

Brown, 32, has built a reputation as a massive, powerful tackle capable of anchoring either side of the line. A Pro Bowler in 2019 with the Raiders, he's played for four different franchises over his career and was brought in this offseason as insurance on the edges. Ultimately, Houston chose to go in another direction, leaning on younger options.

Teams in need of veteran depth, especially contenders dealing with offensive line injuries, could keep an eye on his availability and health later into the season.

As for the Texans, they're putting their trust in the developing talent on the roster to protect Stroud as he enters his third season. It's a gamble, but one the front office clearly feels comfortable making as Houston looks to build on its breakout playoff run last year.

Brown's release ends a short chapter in Houston, but at 6-8 and 370 pounds, his size and experience could still make him a valuable asset to quite a few teams across the NFL chasing postseason success.

The Texans are betting on in-house options.

Brown will be betting a team will take a chance on him and get one more shot.
