Former NFL QB Urging Commanders to be Cautious With Terry McLaurin

Just in time for the regular season, the Washington Commanders have ended their standoff with Terry McLaurin. While the veteran wide receiver is expected to be in action to begin the year, one former player urged them not to go overboard when it comes to his workload.

McLaurin has been separated from the team for most of the offseason as he sought out a contract extension. The ordeal was dragged out longer than either side wanted, but they were eventually able to strike an agreement. McLaurin secured the lucrative payday he desired, inking a three-year extension worth up to $96 million.

Now that the business side of things has been taken care of, McLaurin has a short period to get himself ready for the 2025 campaign. The Commanders are set to begin the regular season on September 7th, facing off against the New York Giants.

Dan Orlovsky wants to see Commanders slowly work Terry McLaurin back

While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show Monday, Dan Orlovsky weighed in with his thoughts on the Commanders finally ending their saga with Terry McLaurin. He is elated to see the two sides work things out, and quickly shifted his focus to the regular season.

Seeing that McLaurin has been fairly limited in his training due to an ankle injury, Orlovsky hopes Washington keeps him at a reasonable workload to start the year.

"No I don't think they can hit the ground running," Orlovsky said. "I think you have to be super, super, super smart. Especially for a team coming off of last year has the aspirations and belief that they'll be playing in January...I think Washington needs to be super smart about how they go about his next four to six weeks."

During his hold-in, McLaurin spent most of the time on the PUP list because of his ankle. It's been a little over a week since he was moved to the active roster, and even then, he wasn't fully integrated with the team. Given these circumstances, it's doubtful McLaurin is on the field as often as people are accustomed to seeing in the early weeks of the year.

Even if his workload is diminished slightly, having McLaurin on the field in any capacity is a boost for the Commanders. In the meantime, he'll attempt to ramp up as best he can in these final days of preparation for the regular season.
