West Ham United have just received a big update in their pursuit of Facundo Buonanotte in the final few days of the window.

The Hammers have made a disastrous start to the new Premier League season, with serious holes already being exposed within their squad.

Graham Potter’s job is under threat at West Ham, and he will be desperately trying to add fresh faces to their ranks before the 1 September deadline as he bids to turn the team’s fortunes around.

The East Londoners have previously shown an interest in Buonanotte, and they have now learned the reality of their pursuit.

West Ham and Leeds ‘lead the race’ for Facundo Buonanotte

West Ham have shown an interest in Buonanotte over the last few weeks, with Brighton trying to secure a Premier League loan move for the 20-year-old.

The Argentine spent time with Leicester City last season, and was one of their more impressive performers, ending the season with seven Premier League goal involvements despite his side’s relegation.

He has now been made available for loan once again by his parent club, and there is no shortage of teams who are interested in signing him.

However, the duo of West Ham and Leeds United currently “lead the race” for the youngster, according to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo via X.

He adds that while there are several clubs who are in the picture for Buonanotte, it is West Ham’s head of recruitment Kyle Macauley, as well as Leeds, who are the “most determined” to secure his signature at this moment in time.

Facundo Buonanotte is not what the Hammers need

West Ham had their issues badly exposed by Chelsea in a heavy defeat last Friday night, and the final few days of the transfer window look set to potentially be pivotal for Potter’s fate.

The boss finds himself under serious pressure after a dire start, but Buonanotte is unlikely to be a signing that will provide his men with the shot in the arm that they need.

The Brighton man has shown flashes of promise since his move to England from Rosario Central back in 2023, but he remains little more than a young prospect with a bright future at the moment.

West Ham appear to be well aware that they need to find a way to add further creativity to their ranks, but they undoubtedly need a player with more proven quality than Buonanotte can provide.
