Liverpool face somewhat of a hectic final week in the transfer window with multiple deals still hanging in the balance.
While the Isak saga dominates headlines, the Merseyside giants are juggling several other crucial pieces of business that could reshape their squad before Monday’s deadline.
The Marc Guehi pursuit remains very much alive.
Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas appears destined for the exit door after Roma opened talks over a loan deal for the Greek international.
The 29-year-old has been frozen out since Milos Kerkez’s arrival and is eager to secure European football elsewhere, though Liverpool would prefer a permanent sale to maximise their return.
The academy exodus is also gathering pace, with several promising youngsters set for loan moves.
Lewis Koumas has already completed his switch to Birmingham City, which was officially announced last week.
Now, David Ornstein has reported that another youngster in James McConnell has signed a new five-year deal and is expected to embark on a season long loan at Ajax for the 2025/26 campaign.
Reporting for the Athletic, the transfer journalist revealed:
“Liverpool midfielder James McConnell has signed a new five-year contract at the club and is poised to join Ajax on loan for the 2025-26 season.”
“McConnell will undergo a medical ahead of moving to the Eredivisie club after they reached an agreement with Liverpool and the 20-year-old.”
The midfielder was thought to have impressed Arne Slot in the final game of the Champions League league phase against PSV last season.
He will see a familiar face in former Red’s assistant manager John Heitinga, as well as fellow loanee Viteszlav Jaros who joined the Dutch giants at the start of the summer window.
Another young midfielder who followed the same route is Luca Stephenson, who is on loan at Dundee for the season after signing a new deal of his own.
