San Antonio man Cordero Maldonado has cosplayed as Spurs Jesus since 2010, according to his LinkedIn.

Minor local celebrity Spurs Jesus' recent appearances promoting Project Marvel may have less to do with him taking his cosplay adventures to new levels than with carrying out the duties for his day job.

That's because Spurs Jesus, whose real name is Cordero Maldonado, actually works for downtown-promotion group Centro San Antonio as a membership and sales coordinator, according to the nonprofit's website.

Silver and Black super-fan Spurs Jesus reemerged from obscurity last week to appear at a Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce's press conference where business leaders urged City Council to push ahead with a deal for a new Spurs arena, the crown jewel of the pricy and controversial Project Marvel development.

The faux prophet also testified in favor of Project Marvel at last Thursday's council meeting alongside Centro San Antonio CEO Trish DeBerry and even verbally sparred with Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones when she crashed the Chamber's press event.

Spurs Jesus' sudden reappearance — not to mention his recent news-footage ubiquity — left many active in San Antonio social media scrap scratching their heads.

"WTF does Spurs Jesus have to do with anything?" @Frankyburrito tweeted after spotting the demi-celeb stumping for Project Marvel.

Maldonado's employment at Centro may explain why Spurs Jesus attended the Chamber presser and why DeBerry invited him to stand beside her during public comment at the recent council debate.

For those who need a refresher on the Spurs Jesus phenomenon, Maldonado has cosplayed the oddball character since 2010, according to his LinkedIn. He also grabbed headlines in 2015 for apprehending a suspect trying to break into his Southtown residence, the Express-News reports.
