The Philadelphia Eagles released a former Penn State linebacker on Tuesday. But could the defending Super Bowl champions bring back the one-time NIttany Lion?
Lance Dixon, a former blue-chip recruit who played at Penn State, West Virginia and Toledo, was released by the Eagles on Tuesday’s roster cutdown day.
The news of Dixon’s release was first reported by Inside The Birds’ Andrew DiCecco.
Dixon, who made a positive impression in training camp as an undrafted rookie, is a candidate to return and sign with the Eagles’ practice squad if he makes it through waivers.
Dixon was a former five-star recruit when he signed with Penn State in the 2019 class. He played two seasons at Penn State in 2019 and 2020, making only one start.
Dixon transferred to West Virginia for three seasons before spending his final year of eligibility at Toledo. He made 72 tackles over three years at West Virginia and 46 stops at Toledo in 2024.
Dixon was far from a top producer, but the 6-foot-2, 233-pound linebacker has the kind of athleticism that could be utilized on special teams and in defensive subpackages at the NFL level.
We’ll see if he gets claimed by another team or if he returns to the Eagles.
