Alexander Isak is still set on a move to Liverpool before next Monday's transfer deadline, despite Newcastle United's owners trying to convince the striker to stay.
In the lead up to Monday's Premier League clash between the two clubs, Isak was visited at his home by representatives from the Public Investment Fund, including club chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, and Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben.
Multiple reports from the North East now suggest that attempts to negotiate a deal for the Swedish international to remain at St James' Park have been unsuccessful, with the player continuing to train separately from the first-team squad and determined to make the switch to Anfield.
Liverpool had a British record £110million bid turned down by Newcastle earlier this month and decided not to increase their offer unless encouraged by the Magpies.
Despite initially insisting that Isak wasn't for sale this summer, Newcastle released a statement last week hinting they would consider letting him go if certain conditions are met.

These are believed to include signing two more forwards and receiving an offer of around £150m for Isak.
Newcastle are still pursuing Brentford's Yoane Wissa and are in discussions with Wolves about a potential move for Jorgen Stand Larsen after having an initial £50m bid rejected.
They are also interested in Nicolas Jackson, who is no longer needed at Chelsea, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Isak hasn't played for Newcastle since the close of last season, having expressed his desire to move on, with Liverpool being his preferred choice.
He was notably absent during the Reds' thrilling 3-2 victory on Tyneside and won't be participating in Newcastle's match against Leeds United this Saturday.

Liverpool's interest in Isak remains, and with the transfer deadline fast approaching, Newcastle will soon have to decide whether to continue negotiations with the Reds or face the uncomfortable task of reintegrating a player who recently stated he had lost faith in the club.
