Knicks fan favorite considered 'likeliest' to be traded amid long-time rumors

Reports have indicated in the past that the New York Knicks could look to move on from Mitchell Robinson. Set to hit the free agency market after next season, Robinson might be a player the Knicks look to move at the trade deadline, depending on how the year is going.

If the Knicks are the top team in the Eastern Conference, like many expect, there wouldn't be much of a reason to move on from Robinson unless they need a player at a different position.

It's also tough to ignore his injury history, appearing in 31 games in 2023-24 and 17 games in 2024-25.

Could Mitchell Robinson be on the move?

On the flip side, there’s a strong argument to be made that Robinson will be a starter for the Knicks this season, further complicating things.

Despite that, Jeremy Brener of Sports Illustrated believes he's one of the three likeliest Knicks players to be traded this year.

“Robinson is a free agent at the end of the season, so the Knicks could look to trade him if they cannot agree to a contract extension with him. Robinson has spent his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Knicks and there's a chance he could be a starter in his eighth, but New York could trade him to acquire more assets for a bigger move down the line,” [he wrote](https://www.si.com/nba/knicks/news/three-likeliest-new-york-knicks-traded-2025-26).

If Robinson hadn't been injured over the past few years, there wouldn't be much of a reason for the Knicks to consider moving on from him.

Not only is he an above-average defender, but Robinson is a great rebounder and seems to be liked by most of the players on the roster.
