The Kansas City Chiefs have released safety Mike Edwards, according to NFL Media. The Green Bay Packers are releasing linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson with the intention of bringing him back to the practice squad if he clears waivers, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz. The Panthers officially announced that they were waiving edge rusher J.J. Weaver.

He graduated in December of 2023 with a degree in community leadership and development and is currently working on a second degree in family science with a minor in communication.
On the field in 2024, he totaled 32 tackles in 10 games and led the team in sacks (5.0) and quarterback hurries (6). He also had 5.0 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup. He ended his career ranking third on UK's career list in tackles for loss (38.5) and fourth in sacks (21.5).
Dumas-Johnson, a former four-star high school prospect and Baltimore, Maryland native spent each of his first three college seasons at Georgia playing for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.
As a true freshman in 2021, the 6-foot-1, 245-pound Dumas-Johnson appeared in 14 of 15 games during the Bulldogs' run to a national championship as a reserve middle and weakside linebacker, playing 102 defensive snaps while also seeing time on special teams. He logged 21 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 2.0 sacks, an interception he returned for a 20-yard touchdown and a pass deflection.
In 2022, he started all 15 games at left inside linebacker and was outstanding.
He logged 70 total tackles, 9.0 tackles for a loss, 4.0 sacks, three pass deflections, and a forced fumble to help lead the Bulldogs to a second straight national championship.
Dumas-Johnson earned several accolades for his outstanding season, including being named a finalist for the Butkus Award (given annually to the top linebacker in the country) and being named a First-Team All-American by Sporting News and ESPN.
In 2023, he started all nine games he was healthy for, making six starts at middle linebacker and three at weakside linebacker. The 6-foot-1 linebacker made 34 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and deflected a pass.
Dumas-Johnson transferred to Kentucky for his senior season where in his lone season as a Wildcat, he started all 11 games he played in at inside linebacker and led the Cats in total tackles (67) and ranked third on the team in tackles for loss (7.5) and sacks (3.5).
He grabbed an interception in Kentucky's season-opening win over Southern Miss and had a 25-yard fumble return for a touchdown in a loss at No. 3 Texas.
During the preseason, NFL teams are allowed to carry 90 players on their roster, but every team has to trim it down to just 53 players by the cut deadline, which is 4 p.m. ET today.
After getting released, a player will hit waivers if they have fewer than four years of service in the league. The waiver order is the same as the 2025 NFL Draft order, so the Tennessee Titans will have first dibs on claiming any player who goes on waivers.
On the other hand, any player with more than four years of experience will officially become a free agent after getting cut, so they won't be eligible to be claimed.
