Insider pours cold water on 76ers rumored $100 million trade interest

It was reported over the weekend that the Philadelphia 76ers have some level of interest in trading for Boston Celtics guard Anfernee Simons.

Simons was acquired by the Celtics during the offseason, in a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers for Jrue Holiday.

He makes $100 million, which complicates things, but he's a decent player, averaging 19.3 points per game last season and shooting 36.3% from 3-point range.

Will Anfernee Simons be on the move?

------------------------------------

Nonetheless, Simons hasn't had the best trade market, according to reports, which is a bit surprising for a 26-year-old who can score 20 plus per night.

In any trade, especially one for the 76ers, the money is the complicating factor.

When examining the situation, Brian Robb of Mass Live reported that the bigger problem is the money. He noted that the 76ers just don't have the type of players to move in a deal for Simons, so it's tough to find a fit for both parties.

“The bigger problem though is the money. Outside of the Sixers top three players (Embiid/George/Maxey) no one else on their roster makes above $11 million. The 76ers would need to send out $19 million to make any trade for Simons work under NBA trade rules and that would require them moving at least four players and taking on additional money from Boston. It’s hard to find any fit there that would make sense for both sides,” [he wrote](https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2025/08/anfernee-simons-trade-rumors-why-2-teams-wont-deal-for-celtics-guard.html).

The Celtics moving on from Simons just to get rid of him makes some sense to get under the tax, but Brad Stevens isn't going to make a trade just to make a trade.

He has to get some value back for a player of his caliber, so it'll be interesting to see what he does.
