Depending on what the New York Knicks do in the remainder of free agency, while still holding an open roster spot, they could move on from some of their young players.
The reality for any NBA team, especially the Knicks in a win-now situation, is that if they don't plan to play their young players, there's no reason to keep them around. The Knicks are built on proven talent, so keeping somebody like Tyler Kolek on the roster might not make too much sense.
From Kolek’s perspective, too, he might be happy to play for another team.
Could Tyler Kolek be on the move?
---------------------------------
Jeremy Brener of Sports Illustrated believes he's one of the three "likeliest" Knicks players to be traded, citing the fact that the Knicks could sign a veteran point guard in free agency to finish out their roster.
“Kolek is in the same boat as Dadiet, but he's a few years older because he came through the American college route to get to the NBA. Kolek played in 41 games last season for the Knicks, showcasing some skills as a ball-handler, but New York still has a little doubt in giving him a considerable amount of minutes.
“The Knicks could sign a veteran point guard in free agency to round out their roster. If they do, it only increases the chances of Kolek being traded to a team that could give him more minutes than the Knicks,” [he wrote](https://www.si.com/nba/knicks/news/three-likeliest-new-york-knicks-traded-2025-26).

The Knicks have been linked to Ben Simmons, Malcolm Brogdon, and multiple other free agents still on the board.
If they get one of those players, it's tough to see a scenario where Kolek would get any real minutes.
