Insider doesn't expect Nuggets to land $100 million guard after latest rumors

The Denver Nuggets have arguably had the best offseason of any team in the NBA.

Regardless of how things play out next year, no one can blame the Nuggets front office for what they attempted to do during the offseason. The front office went for a big swing and accomplished that by trading for Cam Johnson and acquiring multiple other players.

Reports also indicated over the weekend that the Nuggets might not be done, showing some interest in the Boston Celtics' newly acquired guard Anfernee Simons.

Could Cam Johnson head to Denver?

However, according to Brian Robb of Mass Live, it's tough to picture a scenario where the Nuggets land him because of financial reasons.

“The Nuggets situation is also challenging to envision from a financial standpoint. Denver has a ton of money tied up in its stars (Jokic/Murray) and will have no interest in moving key role players either like Aaron Gordon and Cameron Johnson as they make a title push.

“That leaves smaller salaries left across the roster and it would take at least three players to make any deal work. The Nuggets have been relying on cheap additions (Bruce Brown, Tim Hardaway Jr.) on the free agent market to bolster their bench so they certainly won’t be in the market for a $26 million reserve in Simons with the luxury tax hit that would come with it,” [he wrote](https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2025/08/anfernee-simons-trade-rumors-why-2-teams-wont-deal-for-celtics-guard.html).

Adding Simons would be intriguing for the Nuggets, as he shot 36.3% from 3-point range and could be a decent second guard behind Jamal Murray, but the tax issues are valid.

The Nuggets don't want to make a bad financial play, even if it's just for a season.
