Savinho already did something in 2022 Tottenham fans will love, it could make him a Spurs hero…

Tottenham have experienced a frustrating summer in the transfer market, but they could still sign Savinho from Manchester City.

Spurs have seen deals for Morgan Gibbs-White and then Eberechi Eze dramatically collapse at advanced stages as Thomas Frank targets attacking reinforcements.

Savinho is tempted to join Tottenham – as the Brazilian feels regular starts will benefit his career – and the north Londoners are ready to spend over £60m on the move.

It would make the South American the new record signing at Spurs, surpassing the £60m spent on Richarlison.

Should Savinho end up at Tottenham this summer, he would become an immediate fan favourite if supporters found out what he did back in 2022.

Savinho has already succeeded where Eberechi Eze failed in rejecting Arsenal

Back in June 2022, Arsenal actually tried to sign the Brazil international while he was still playing for Atletico Mineiro.

Savinho revealed this himself during an interview with SPORT in Spain, claiming: “Yes. Arsenal wanted me and so did Bragantino from Brazil.”

The man born in Sao Mateus opted to reject Arsenal and join the City Football Group instead, initially moving to Troyes in a £5.6m deal before a £30.8m switch to Manchester City materialised in July 2024.

The mere fact Savinho basically rejected Arsenal for Troyes should go down well amongst Tottenham fans, given the bitter rivalry between Spurs and the Gunners.

Savinho to Tottenham depends on Rodrygo and Manchester City

Manchester City obviously suffered a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham on Saturday, so Pep Guardiola and Hugo Viana have little intention of strengthening Spurs without replacing Savinho first.

The Athletic believe Manchester City will only sell Savinho if they can sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid, a player who is out of favour under Xabi Alonso and likely to move before the transfer deadline on Monday.

Therefore, it does not really matter how much Tottenham are willing to spend on the 21-year-old, as no movement is expected to materialise unless Viana finds a replacement for Guardiola first.
