Jaka Bijol has been handed his competitive Leeds United debut by Daniel Farke in tonight's second round Carabao Cup meeting with Sheffield Wednesday.
Bijol was suspended for the opening Premier League fixture against Everton due to a red card in Udinese's final Serie A match of last season, before being left as an unused substitute at Arsenal. He has only played 15 minutes of football since the friendly with Villarreal at Elland Road on August 9.
Also getting his first outing for the Whites is centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw, who is considered bottom of the centre-back pecking order. Meanwhile, Sean Longstaff and Noah Okafor are given their first starts in midfield and on the left wing respectively in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has made the squad for the first time since arriving and begins the game on the bench. An appearance from it will denote his maiden outing for the Whites. Latest new full-back signing James Justin was not registered in time for the game.
Sam Byram is therefore named at right-back while Jack Harrison is fielded on the opposite flank, having been briefly used in the role by Farke in pre-season. Karl Darlow starts in net, with Lucas Perri watching from the bench meaning Illan Meslier's exile from the matchday squad continues.
Joining Longstaff in midfield is Ilia Gruev, with Joel Piroe possibly ahead in the number 10. On the right flank is Brenden Aaronson.
Lukas Nmecha leads the line from the start for the first time, the striker being the only Leeds player to get on the scoresheet so far this season thanks to his winning penalty kick against Everton.
Starting XI: Darlow; Byram, Bijol, Bornauw, Harrison; Gruev, Longstaff; Aaronson, Piroe, Okafor; Nmecha.
Subs: Perri, Bogle, Gudmundsson, Rodon, Stach, James, Gnonto, Gray, Calvert-Lewin.
