Everton could be set to part ways with Nathan Patterson before deadline day.

Patterson missed out for Everton against Brighton as injury once again meant he was absent from David Moyes’ squad on Merseyside.

The 23-year-old Scotland international also wasn’t available as Everton lost to Leeds United on the opening day of the season, with Jake O’Brien once again covering at right-back.

This fitness concern hasn’t been helped by a lack of form over the summer, as Patterson struggled against Blackburn Rovers in pre-season, with frustration surrounding the right-back continuing.

As a result, it is little surprise that Patterson is set to depart the Hill Dickinson Stadium and is just waiting on a replacement deal before getting the green light to leave L4.

It just hasn’t worked out for the Scot since making the move from Rangers, despite the backing from the Goodison faithful over the years.

With that in mind, moving on at this stage could prove to be the best move for all parties at this stage of the summer window.

This has seen Sevilla showcase an interest in Patterson, with that deal edging closer to completion at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has reported that a deal in principle has been agreed between Everton and the LaLiga outfit ahead of a loan switch.

The defender is now waiting on the Spaniards to complete the sale of fellow right back Juanlu Sanchez, who is set to join Napoli this summer.

This will allow Sevilla to instantly replace the Mexican with Patterson, all while Everton continues their search for a new right back themselves.

Everton must sign Nathan Patterson alternative quickly

Although the departure of Patterson will benefit everyone associated, it does leave a hole in the Toffees’ squad moving deeper into the campaign.

As a result, this exit will leave just days for Moyes to find a new right-back from the market to benefit his side for the rest of the season.

O’Brien does represent a useful option, but an out-and-out right back would certainly come as a welcome addition before 1 September.

It will be interesting to see if Everton can find a new defender and get a deal over the line, or whether they will live to regret losing Patterson to Sevilla.
