The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons are currently in a standoff.
The former Penn State star wants to be one of the highest-paid defenders in football, and the Cowboys thus far have shown they are unwilling to make it happen.
While both sides have been pointing the finger at one another throughout the Summer, one former executive believes all the blame falls onto Parsons.
Joe Banner Says Micah Parsons Brought This on Himself
Joe Banner, former President of the Philadelphia Eagles, CEO of the Cleveland Browns, and front office consultant for the Atlanta Falcons, says Parsons is the one who should be shouldering the blame for the elongated contract negotiation, and not Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
"If Jerry offered Micah a deal that made him [the highest-paid non-quarterback]. If that offer is not more than 4 years long, then this dispute is now Micah’s fault," Banner posted on X.
"Often player deserves support during negotiations, but not always. That’s what the deal should be, and if true, then the deal should be done."
Banner's point rests on the assumption that Jones and the Cowboys did, in fact, offer the Penn State product the highest-paid non-QB contract in league history. However, Parsons' agent David Mulugheta denied that such a contract was ever on the table.
If it were ever a possibility, Parsons and Mulugheta would've been foolish not to accept the offer. But it remains to be confirmed if this was actually the case.
Regardless, the dispute is still at the forefront of Dallas sports news, and as the team should be focusing on their Week 1 matchup against the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, the question remains if Parsons will even be suited up for opening night of the NFL season.
