Brentford and Wolves have confirmed whether Newcastle United transfer targets Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen are involved in their respective Carabao Cup second round ties on Tuesday night.

The Magpies are in desperate need to strengthen their depleted forward line before the summer transfer window closes at 7pm next Monday, September 1. So far, numerous targets have slipped past Eddie Howe, while Alexander Isak is angling for a way out of St James' Park.

That means the club have started the season without a seasoned senior striker, but they have continued to chase down the signatures of Wissa and Strand Larsen, more recently.

Brentford are said to be holding out for £50m to allow Wissa to switch - a fee Newcastle will not match knowing the 28-year-old is out of contract next year anyway. Three offers have been rejected already, the highest believed to be around £40m.

Wissa has attempted to force a move - and has not played at all this season. His absence is continuing as the Bees confirmed he's not in their squad that plays Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup this evening.

This is in spite of manager Keith Andrews saying on Monday: "There has been no movement in any way and I fully expect Yoane to be here come next Tuesday [September 2]."

Next, Newcastle will have had one eye on Wolves announcing their line-up to take on West Ham - in another all-Premier League League Cup tie. They have confirmed Strand Larsen is involved, though drops down to the bench along with seven other changes made by head coach Vitor Pereira.

As Wolves have suffered defeats in both their league games so far, the decision has been made to rotate and rest key players such as Strand Larsen ahead of a weekend fixture against Everton.

On Monday, Chronicle Live reported Newcastle had sent a £50m offer the way of Molineux for the Norwegian but were rejected in their attempts.

Despite the set-back, signs were still positive and discussions were continuing towards the deadline. Meanwhile The Express & Star have claimed Wolves are closing in on the £17m signing of Christantus Uche from Getafe - yet another striker who could help unlock the door to Strand Larsen's move to Tyneside.
