**Newcastle United's 3-2 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Monday night left a few psychological scars as the Magpies did all they could to salvage a point after going two goals down, only to be robbed 10 minutes into stoppage time.**
It was a game that Newcastle would have felt they could, and likely would have won, had they had Alexander Isak available.
Perhaps worse than the mental scars, which can be quickly healed by recognising what an outstanding performance it was by everyone in black and white, including those in the stands.
The physical wounds, however, are a lot harder to take as Eddie Howe lost three key players to injury on top of one to suspension.

Newcastle lost Sandro Tonali, Fabian Schar and Joelinton to injury
------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandro Tonali and Joelinton looked to have suffered serious injuries, while Fabian Schar suffered his customary head injury that will keep him out of the game at Leeds due to concussion protocols.
Tonali injured his shoulder and looked in visible pain, and despite trying to play on, Eddie Howe made the decision to remove him from the action.
Joelinton seemed to pull something while stretching for the ball and was already signalling he was in pain before he'd even hit the deck.
Joelinton should be back to face Wolverhampton Wanderers next month

Eddie Howe said after the game that both injuries looked bad, but Joelinton's wife, [Thays Gondim De Lira, posted an update on social media](https://www.instagram.com/thaysgondim_/) on Tuesday, which suggests Joelinton may not miss as much football as first feared.
> “And to answer everyone together, it’s not serious! It’s nothing to do with surgery!”
>
> “Muscular injury and he will be 100% in a few days, unfortunately not in time to go defend the Brazilian National Team!”
It sounds as though he will miss the trip to Leeds, but should be back fit and ready after the international break, which is much better than it initially looked on Monday night.
