The Dallas Mavericks are one of the most interesting teams in basketball, and they might have some deals to make next summer.
Over the past few months, the Mavericks have been in a strange spot. After trading Luka Doncic, the team missed the playoffs but ended up with Cooper Flagg by landing the No. 1 pick in the draft lottery.
Although the Mavericks are mostly done with their offseason moves, there could be one more big domino to fall for Nico Harrison and company this summer. While it wouldn’t exactly be splashy to simply give one of their players an extension, the Mavericks might need to do so to control his future beyond next season.
P.J. Washington staying in Dallas?
----------------------------------
The Mavericks are eligible to offer Washington an extension in the coming days, and that could be key for Dallas if it wants to potentially avoid losing him for nothing in 2026. Notably, the Golden State Warriors might be the perfect fit for Washington if his Dallas tenure comes to an end, as noted by [FanSided](https://bluemanhoop.com/warriors-will-need-to-wait-another-year-for-their-ideal-jonathan-kuminga-replacement)’s G.C. Bellchamber.
Noting that Washington’s 3-point shooting and defensive versatility could be game-changers for the Warriors, Bellchamber made a clear case for why the Warriors should target the forward. Obviously, the Mavericks know all of the things that make Washington a highly coveted player, given that he started for them on their NBA Finals run in 2024.
Although there is no imminent threat of the Warriors coming after Washington, it would be wise to ink him to an extension this summer.
