Five Man United stars Ruben Amorim must unleash vs Grimsby Town

Manchester United face League Two side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round at Blundell Park on Wednesday evening.

Manager Ruben Amorim cannot afford to get his selection wrong to avoid an upset. Read on as we look at five players we think the Portuguese coach must start against Grimsby.

Benjamin Sesko

Sesko was a substitute in his first two games and must be handed a start against Grimsby to hit his stride.

Matheus Cunha led the attack against Arsenal and Fulham, but was signed to play as a number 10. By starting Sesko, he could get fully fit to lead the line against Burnley while Cunha plays as the number 10.

Ayden Heaven

Luke Shaw started the opening league games as the left centre-back and fared well. However, he has to be dropped for Heaven due to his injury woes.

Heaven has played for just three minutes since the start of the campaign and is unlikely to start against Burnley, making this game the perfect chance to give him his first start.

Diego Leon

The Paraguayan youngster has not made his competitive debut for Man United and should be allowed to do so against David Artell’s side.

Patrick Dorgu was poor against Fulham last Sunday, and Leon should be given the chance to show whether he is good enough to fight for a starting berth with the Denmark international.

Joshua Zirkzee

The Dutch striker has yet to feature in any game this season, despite United’s insistence that he is not for sale.

Amorim considers him a pivotal player and should now be given playing time to build his match fitness, and this fixture would allow him to do that.

His intelligent running and involvement during the build-up could also help United break down Grimsby, who are expected to play in a low block.

Andre Onana

The Cameroonian has yet to feature this season due to the injury he suffered in pre-season. With Altay Bayindir’s struggles, Amorim should reinstate Onana as the first-choice goalkeeper.

While the former Ajax star has been unconvincing since joining Man United, he still remains an upgrade on Bayindir.
