Houston Texans free-agent acquisition Trent Brown suffered a season-ending patellar tendon rupture in Week 3 as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals, typically requiring a six to 12-month recovery time. As a result, the Texans placed the Pro Bowl offensive tackle on the PUP list to open training camp. Brown has yet to practice, and the front office had to decide whether to activate him, place him on the reserve/PUP list to start the season and miss at least four games, or release him.
Ultimately, they chose the latter.

According to Adam Schefter, the Texans released Trent Brown earlier on Tuesday. As a vested veteran, he will not be subject to the waiver wire and is free to join any team. This move may come as a surprise to some, with the recent news that the team is shopping Cam Robinson due to the emergence of rookie Aireontae Ersery.

According to Ian Rapoport, Trent Brown is expected to join the Texans’ practice squad, allowing him to recover from his knee injury. Once he’s healthy, the team plans to promote him to the 53-man roster. NFL teams must wait until Wednesday to add players to their practice squads. Since Brown is a vested veteran, he won’t face any obstacles unless another team decides to sign him.
#Texans OT Trent Brown, who was released today, will likely head to the Houston practice squad to get healthy and ready. He’ll be available for the 53-man roster soon.
