32. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are the worst NFL team entering the season. On one hand, that means this franchise will finally be in a position to potentially land the first overall pick so they can turn over a new leaf at quarterback and find a franchise savior. On the other hand, being this bad makes it odd that New Orleans invested so much money this offseason in Chase Young and Justin Reid. If there’s one silver lining for the Saints, beyond premium draft capital in 2026, it’s this young offensive line developing over time and hopefully becoming a strength for this franchise in the years to come.

31. Cleveland Browns

When you have three quarterbacks, you effectively have none. That’s the bottom line for the Cleveland Browns. Becoming one of the highest-paid NFL players ever was apparently enough to convince Myles Garrett to forget all about his Super Bowl aspirations and tie himself, for years to come, to one of the worst NFL teams in 2025. So, at least Cleveland’s defense will be solid this year. We’d just advise everyone who isn’t emotionally invested in this team to avoid watching the Browns’ offense whenever possible.
30. Tennessee Titans

All that matters for the Tennessee Titans this season is Cam Ward. The buzz from training camp and joint practices this summer indicated that the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft showed everything the coaching staff wanted to see and more. Tennessee also did an admirable job addressing the offensive line, building a competent unit that should keep Ward healthy and prevent him from developing bad habits by being constantly under duress. It’s all about the future for Tennessee. If Ward is as advertised, this will be considered a good season.

29. Carolina Panthers

Simply put, the Carolina Panthers roster isn’t good enough right now for them to be very competitive. Bryce Young showed more than enough flashes in the second half of last season to inspire some confidence, but now everyone needs to see it over a full 17-game season. Carolina has provided him with a solid offensive line and a promising group of pass catchers in Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette, and Jalen Coker. Unfortunately, this passing game is still too raw to overcome how bad the Panthers’ defense is likely to be this season.
28. New York Jets

What should really matter for the New York Jets is that they can implement a new culture under head coach Aaron Glenn, especially with Aaron Rodgers out of town. The new-look front office has also made commitments to the future by rewarding Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner with lucrative deals. Plus, with time, this young Jets offensive line will start gelling and create confidence about the foundation for whichever quarterback New York lands in Round 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft.

27. New York Giants

The New York Giants defense will be the most enjoyable aspect of this club for the majority of the season. New York has truly assembled one of the best defensive lines in the NFL, a unit that can create trouble for even great offenses. Speaking of offenses, the Giants won’t be watchable with Russell Wilson under center. It might be in New York’s best interest to hold off on starting Jaxson Dart until Wilson has been thrown through the gauntlet that is the first eight games on the Giants’ schedule.

26. Indianapolis Colts

In time, it will be proven that there was no winner in the Indianapolis Colts quarterback competition. Anthony Richardson’s long-term future now likely depends on another franchise taking him on in 2026, spending that year developing him, then giving him a shot to be a starter down the line. As for Daniel Jones, this season will serve as the final evidence to convince teams that he isn’t a starting-caliber quarterback. For Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard, the on-field results could lead to their firing at the end of the season. On the bright side for the fan base, if the franchise cleans house at the end of the year, that could be considered a win.

25. Las Vegas Raiders
NFL Power Rankings 2025

The Las Vegas Raiders have a playoff-caliber offense. Even with sub-par play from the offensive line, Ashton Jeanty is a special player, and he’ll be complemented by sharp play from quarterback Geno Smith. This offensive core will allow the Raiders to keep a lot of games close. Unfortunately for Las Vegas, even with Maxx Crosby getting after the quarterback, the Raiders’ defense will give up far too many points for this franchise to end its playoff drought.

24. Seattle Seahawks

The fall-off for Sam Darnold is coming. He looked great in perfect circumstances last year, but the environment with the Seattle Seahawks isn’t nearly as ideal. Darnold’s kryptonite is being pressured, and he’ll face a lot of it this season behind a bad Seahawks offensive line. On the bright side for Seattle, this defense will almost single-handedly win them six-plus games.
23. Miami Dolphins
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn Images
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is squarely on the hot seat entering the season. Unfortunately for him, Miami’s offensive line and secondary might ultimately be the reasons he gets fired. The Dolphins made marginal improvements to their pass protection, but that still might not be enough to keep Tua Tagovailoa healthy for a full 17-game season. We’ve seen how bad this offense performs without Tagovailoa under center, and even with him on the field, the Dolphins’ cornerbacks could create a lot of high-scoring games.

22. New England Patriots
NFL Power Rankings 2025

There’s a real possibility that the New England Patriots might not be quite as good as their record will indicate in 2025. That’s what happens when you have a good coach, a great defense, a quarterback with franchise-caliber tools, and the Patriots’ schedule. Drake Maye still doesn’t have the supporting cast he needs to really elevate this team, but the defense and coaches give the Patriots an outside shot at nine wins.

21. Jacksonville Jaguars
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Stephen Lew-Imagn Images
The Jacksonville Jaguars devoted their offseason to helping Trevor Lawrence. It started with the hiring of head coach Liam Coen and was followed by the huge move to land Travis Hunter, then make him primarily a wide receiver instead of a cornerback. Of course, the irony is that Lawrence is still stuck behind a below-average offensive line, and the Jaguars’ defense isn’t any better. Lawrence’s performance might improve in 2025, but the final record might only have seven wins to show for it.
20. Atlanta Falcons
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images
There’s a lot riding on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. quickly becoming the player everyone in the organization believes he’ll become. Losing right tackle Kaleb McGary for the start of the season certainly doesn’t help, especially since he is the blindside protector for the left-handed quarterback. Fortunately for Atlanta, they can center this offense around Bijan Robinson and still be just fine. Even if Penix plays really well this season and the Falcons’ offense reaches its ceiling, the defense would likely weigh this club down enough to prevent them from winning the NFC South.
19. Dallas Cowboys
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images
For all of the drama surrounding the Dallas Cowboys, all Jerry Jones will likely get out of it is a nine-win season. The offense will obviously improve with a healthy Dak Prescott and the addition of wide receiver George Pickens. However, Dallas still can’t stop the run, and it also doesn’t have a reliable ground game. Those aren’t season-killers; they are just two reasons why Dallas likely won’t be good enough this year to be particularly relevant.

18. Chicago Bears
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images
The Chicago Bears will probably get off to a slow start this season, with quarterback Caleb Williams needing time to settle into Ben Johnson’s system. It might not be all that different from the 2022 Lions, who started 1-6 and then finished 9-8. Competing for a playoff spot would be a great outcome for the Bears, but steady improvement from Williams and a cohesive offensive line by the end of the year would be a good result.
17. Arizona Cardinals
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images
The Arizona Cardinals could be a surprise team this season, potentially even good enough to win the NFC West. Arizona ended last year with a top-10 offense and a second-year leap from wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. would make this passing game more explosive. Defensively, Arizona finally has some pass-rushing juice to help make Jonathan Gannon’s scheme a little more effective over a full season. Really, the Cardinals’ playoff hopes all ride on the shoulders of Kyler Murray. If he isn’t up for the task, the Cardinals might need to consider a quarterback change next offseason.
16. Pittsburgh Steelers
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Jim Dedmon-Imagn Images
The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the oldest rosters in the NFL this season, led by a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers. We have faith in the defense, which should at least be a top-14 unit as the floor. Offensively, this is a team with a giant question mark at left tackle and a No. 1 wide receiver in DK Metcalf who tends to freelance. That’s not exactly a great fit for Rodgers. Pittsburgh’s ceiling is higher than it was a year ago with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, but the floor is a club with a losing record.

15. San Francisco 49ers
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images
The current state of the San Francisco 49ers roster now gives them a lower floor if injuries strike and the team’s ceiling when healthy is probably a Divisional Round berth. While some of the departures will put more pressure on the shoulders of quartebrack Brock Purdy, we do believe that he’ll come through with his best season performance-wise to date. If Christian McCaffrey can stay healthy and Brandon Aiyuk is anything close to his former self in the second half of the season, San Francisco could get hot at just the right time of year.
14. Los Angeles Chargers
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images
How far can one of the most well-coached NFL teams with a great quarterback go? We’re about to find out thanks to the Los Angeles Chargers. Losing All-Pro left tackle Rashawn Slater was a massive blow for an offense that couldn’t afford a big hit. There isn’t a ton of talent on this Chargers roster, but we wouldn’t bet against Justin Herbert, head coach Brandon Staley, and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter getting this team a wild card spot.

13. Cincinnati Bengals
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Amber Searls-Imagn Images
We’ll give the Cincinnati Bengals credit for resolving the Trey Hendrickson contract dispute before he initiated a regular-season holdout. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, the team still projects to have one of the league’s worst defenses this season. Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Chase Brown will once again put forth an incredible effort trying to overcome it. However, given some of the difficult matchups on the Bengals’ schedule, we’re not confident that this team’s ceiling is any higher than a Wild Card berth and quick playoff exit.

12. Houston Texans
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Troy Taormina-Imagn Images
The Houston Texans could be ranked much higher in our NFL power rankings, but they still have a glaring problem up front. C.J. Stroud is stuck behind one of the worst NFL offensive lines, and the situation is now worsened with running back Joe Mixon out for the first four games. It’s extremely difficult to trust a team that is likely to lose nearly every battle up front on offense. That makes it all the more impressive that Stroud’s talent, head coach DeMeco Ryans, and the Texans’ defense have kept this team in contention to win the division.
11. Washington Commanders
NFL Power Rankings 2025

Regression is coming for the Washington Commanders. That’s not to say Jayden Daniels is about to have a Stroud-like dip in his second year; rather, it’s the reality for a team that had just about everything go right for it in 2024. Washington’s historically high fourth-down efficiency is likely to dip; some of the good fortune they had in facing opponents whose quarterbacks got hurt won’t happen again, and teams will adjust to Kliff Kingsbury’s schemes. Even with all that, Daniels can still lead the Commanders to the playoffs.

10. Green Bay Packers
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Kayla Wolf-Imagn Images
The Green Bay Packers feel like more of a mystery team than is being recognized nationally. We’ll start with the Packers defense, which performed like a top-10 unit statistically in the second half of last season, but is alarmingly weak and thin at the two most important positions (edge rusher and cornerback). As for quarterback Jordan Love, what version of him are the Packers getting? We can somewhat excuse the subpar performance in his first 8 games last season – 16-11 TD-INT and 62.3% completion rate – because of his MCL sprain. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that he has a 2-5 TD-INT ratio and 57.2 QB rating in his last two playoff starts. If Love is inconsistent and the defense takes a step back, maybe Green Bay misses the playoffs.

9. Los Angeles Rams

Can Matthew Stafford stay healthy for the entire season? This question became more pressing after a summer where the Los Angeles Rams were alarmingly vague about his back injury and availability for practice. It helps that left tackle Alaric Jackson (blood clots) has received clearance to participate in full-team drills. If Stafford stays healthy, the Rams’ offense will be the best version we have seen in several years. As for the Rams’ defense, we will find out just how good that unit can be when it is carried entirely by its defensive line.

8. Minnesota Vikings
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images
It really all comes down to quarterback J.J. McCarthy and the availability of the Minnesota Vikings’ receiving corps. The Minnesota Vikings have assembled one of the league’s best rosters, and the front office overhauled the offensive line this offseason to support the second-year quarterback in his first season as a starter. McCarthy certainly offers a higher ceiling than Sam Darnold, but the question is what his floor is. If McCarthy is what the Vikings coaching staff believes he is, then Minnesota is a Super Bowl contender.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL Power Rankings 2025

Slotting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this high in our NFL power rankings heading into the regular season could look foolish early. Tampa Bay will be without All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs and Pro Bowl wide receiver Chris Godwin for the first few weeks of September. When they return, we expect this to be one of the best NFL offenses this season. Tampa Bay boasts one of the league’s best offensive lines, potentially a top-10 running back in Bucky Irving, and one of the best NFL receiving corps in 2025. Baker Mayfield has already proven he can take advantage of that. So, if Tampa Bay’s defense performs like it did in the second half of last season, maybe the Buccaneers can be a dark-horse Super Bowl contender.

6. Denver Broncos
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Matthew Hinton-Imagn Images
We’re all in on the Denver Broncos this season. Bo Nix might not be a top-10 quarterback right now, but he is supported by one of the best NFL offensive lines in 2025, an outstanding defense, and one of the best play-callers in modern NFL history. Sean Payton is going to maximize Nix and the Broncos’ run game, which, when paired with a shutdown defense, gives Denver a shot to potentially win the AFC West this season. This team might not quite be on the level of the 2023 49ers, but there are similarities.

5. Kansas City Chiefs
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images
Maybe it is ill-advised to put the Kansas City Chiefs this low in our NFL power rankings entering Week 1. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones have taken this club to three consecutive Super Bowls and posted a combined 78-22 record (.780) over the last six regular seasons. However, Rashee Rice is headed for a lengthy suspension that will likely come in the middle of the season. Kansas City will also be relying on a very young and inexperienced left side of its offensive line (Josh Simmons and Kingsley Suamataia), and the defense showed signs of taking a step back in the second half of last season. Mahomes will still get Kansas City to double-digit wins, but the Chiefs’ streak of consecutive AFC title appearances may end this season.

4. Buffalo Bills
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images
Coming off his first NFL MVP, quarterback Josh Allen will once again carry this Buffalo Bills offense. Even if he does not replicate his production from last season, the hope is that continued growth from Keon Coleman and Dalton Kincaid will help give Allen that final push to finally beat the Chiefs in the playoffs. An even bigger key this season will be the Bills’ pass rush, with the team putting a lot of faith in Joey Bosa staying healthy. Whether or not Buffalo can finally get over that last hurdle in January remains to be seen, but this team is a near lock for double-digit wins as long as Allen is healthy.

3. Detroit Lions
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images
The expectation shouldn’t be for the Detroit Lions to dominate again with a 15-2 record and a +222 point differential like they did in 2024. Detroit will likely face an adjustment period due to two new play-callers and significant changes to the interior offensive line. Additionally, the NFC North is stronger than ever, and the Lions’ schedule is more difficult than last season. Once Detroit settles in, however, this will be the best team in football and it absolutely has the firepower to make a deep playoff run toward a Super Bowl berth.

2. Baltimore Ravens
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images
The Baltimore Ravens have been among the NFL’s best teams for two consecutive years, though they still lack major playoff success to show for it. An offense featuring two NFL MVP candidates, a strong supporting cast, and an elite defense gives Baltimore a chance in every game. However, self-inflicted wounds – drops, fumbles, and penalties – have continued to plague the Ravens in the postseason. Baltimore will likely seize the No. 1 spot in power rankings at various points this season, but all that really matters now is whether Lamar Jackson and company can finally exercise their playoff demons.

1. Philadelphia Eagles
NFL Power Rankings 2025
Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images
The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the best NFL teams right now. Even after several offseason departures, they still feature one of the best NFL rosters in 2025. While there are some minor concerns at CB2, EDGE, and even RG, Philadelphia still has the elite talent, depth, and ascending young players needed to contend for another Super Bowl title. Repeating as champions is always difficult, but this is a team fully capable of doing it.
