Manchester United’s 2025/26 campaign has gotten off to a rocky start.

The Red Devils opened the season with a frustrating defeat to Arsenal before scraping a 1-1 draw with Fulham, a continuation of the struggles of last season.

That draw with the Cottagers means that United have picked up just 28 points from 29 games under Rúben Amorim – a managerial record up there with the worst in top flight history.

New signings have yet to make a noticeable impact, and the squad looks in desperate need of fresh energy.

But amid this challenging start, United could be about to lose one of their brightest young stars in what could be a hammer blow.

According to a report from TalkSPORT, Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly open to leaving Manchester United in the final week of the transfer window if a suitable offer arrives.

The England international has been an unused substitute for both of United’s opening Premier League games and has yet to agree a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2027.

Mainoo has already made 72 appearances for the Red Devils since making his debut at 17 in a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Charlton in 2023. Despite his young age, he has impressed teammates and pundits alike, including Luke Shaw, who called Mainoo “scary” good.

“He has got the world at his feet. He just needs to stay level-headed, keep working hard and the world is his oyster,” he said. “He can honestly achieve anything.”

Chelsea are reportedly among the clubs keeping close tabs on Mainoo, seeing him as a potential addition to their growing squad of talented youngsters.

If a deal goes through, it would mark another significant setback for Manchester United under Amorim.
