Ex-NFL GM: Starting Russell Wilson doesn’t give the Giants ‘the best chance to win’

Russell Wilson is not the best option for the Giants at quarterback and failing to start Jaxson Dart is a bad move, according to one former NFL GM.

“Jaxson Dart, how soon does he start? If it was up to me, it would have been three months ago,” Mike Tannenbaum said Tuesday on SportsCenter. “He has outplayed Russell Wilson. He is the best quarterback on the New York Giants. Every game he doesn’t start is, to me, not giving them the best chance to win. He has played with energy. He’s played with enthusiasm. Knows what to do. I think he should start.”

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel echoed that sentiment earlier this month.

“Jaxson Dart [is] clearly very comfortable in Brian Daboll’s up tempo offense,” Daniel wrote on Threads. I don’t know how you can leave him on the bench for long at all.”

He followed up later in the day: “For the people that are saying he needs to sit for the whole year…the absolute best way to develop is to play real football games," Daniel, who played in the NFL from 2009-22, wrote on Threads.

In three preseason games, Dart has completed 32-of-47 passes with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Giants, who on Tuesday released Tommy DeVito, open the regular season Sept 7 at the Washington Commanders.
