BEREA -- The Cleveland Browns trimmed their roster to the NFL mandated 53-player limit on Tuesday. The Browns released 21 players on Sunday and made a couple of trades, as well.
Some of the bigger names released were kicker Dustin Hopkins, former Pro Bowl wide receiver Diontae Johnson, running back Pierre Strong (injury designation), defensive tackle Sam Kamara and defensive end Julian Okwara.
Other players released were running back Trayveon Williams, wide receiver Chase Cota, wide receiver Kaden Davis, safety Christopher Edmonds, cornerback LaMareon James, wide receiver Kisean Johnson, running back Ahmani Marshall, wide receiver Cade McDonald (injury designation) and offensive tackle Kilian Zierer (international player).
Other moves include defensive tackle **Mike Hall**passing his physical and is part of the 53-man roster. Linebacker Winston Reid (designated for return) was placed on injured reserve.
Placed on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (1):
Quarterback Deshaun Watson was played on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform and wide receiver David Bell was placed on Reserve/Non-Football injury list.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett was traded on Monday night to the Raiders for a fifth-round draft pick in 2026 and the Browns acquired offensive tackle KT Leveston in a trade with the Rams for a seventh-round draft pick in 2028.
Leveston, 25, was a seventh-round pick of the Rams a year ago out of Kansas State. He's 6-foot-4, 336 pounds and missed his rookie season with an ankle injury.
Cornelius Lucas was to be the top swing tackle but missed last week with an ankle injury, leaving his status in question. Jackson Barton was cut Sunday.
Six undrafted free agent rookies are on the initial 53-man roster.
The Browns can now form a practice squad of up to 16 players, which will likely be made up of players that were released or with the team in training camp.
