New Orleans Saints End Speculaton by Finally Naming Starting Quarterback

The New Orleans Saints are finally ending speculation regarding the starting quarterback, as it has been announced that Spencer Rattler will be under center for the team in 2025.

Potential starter and dynamic rookie Tyler Shough will now be the presumed backup for Rattler.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore commented on Rattler being named the starter to the press.

"He's just been consistent. He's made some really good decisions throughout this whole entire process and his ability to make plays with his arm and his feet have certainly showed up."

Rattler and Shough had quite the quarterback battle, but the job now goes to the upcoming second-year passer.

Rattler threw for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions during seven games in 2024. He was thrown into action when Derek Carr was injured.

Rattler now gets his chance to lead the team, and he should do well given the weapons the Saints have on the team. Longtime veteran Alvin Kamara will take the bulk of the carries, while Rattler can throw the ball to Rasheeh Shahid, Chris Olave, and Brandin Cooks.

Interestingly, the Saints have been playing a bit with the structure of their wide receiver corps, using Olave as a slot receiver in preseason. He may not end up taking over that role, but it could be safe bet given his concussion history.

New Orleans dealt with injuries to both Shaheed and Olave in 2024, but they are both healthy and ready to go in 2025.

Shaheed tore his meniscus and had it repaired, while Olave was hit with two concussions. Both veterans are solid when healthy, and the hope is they remain that way through the 2025 season.

Moore is also the new head coach and could elevate the team in his first crack at being head coach. The young coach has served as an offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and Los Angeles Chargers.
