There has been plenty of speculation and reports that the Minnesota Vikings have been active in trying to trade for the Carolina Panthers and former Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen.

The reports have been ongoing for the past few days, with plenty of hope that a deal could be made for Thielen to return to his original team. Though there has been a snag regarding the money for the trade, the potential deal has received an even more brutal and potentially final update.
According to The Athletic's Joe Person, the Panthers are set to release Hunter Renfrow. With this release, this might all but guarantee that Thielen is staying put in Carolina.
The Panthers need strong receivers to complement quarterback Bryce Young, and with Renfrow on the way out, it would suggest Thielen will remain a top weapon for the young passer.

Minnesota had been hoping for a reunion with Thielen, and his addition would also make sense for young signal caller J.J. McCarthy. This is especially true considering the team will be without Jordan Addison for the firs three games of the season.
Jalen Nailor is also dealing with a hand injury that will keep him out, leaving the wide receiver room severely lacking. The good news is that there are plenty of roster cuts happening on Tuesday that could warrant some talent that the Vikings could use.
If all else fails, Minnesota might also think about bringing in Renfrow since he is being let go by the Panthers. The Vikings may not be able to bring in Thielen, but they can certainly make a play for his current teammate.
Thielen might still be traded, but the compensation might likely have to be far higher now that the Panthers are moving on from Renfrow. For now, it appears the Vikings pursuit of their fan-favorite playmaker has stopped dead in its tracks.
