Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift shared the big news of their engagement today, Aug. 26, and fans are already calling on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end's big brother Jason Kelce for a major role at the ceremony-but it's not what you think.
One might automatically assume that as close as the two NFL stars are-hosting a podcast, New Heights, together and often speaking of the tight-knit relationship they've had since childhood-that supporters would want to see the retired Philadelphia Eagles center stand by Travis' side as his best man. However, some people have something else entirely in mind: they'd rather see Jason officiate the wedding.
Social media immediately lit up after it was shared in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday that the pro athlete had officially proposed to the pop star, with a myriad of varying reactions to the news-everything from people being absolutely elated for the lovestruck couple to intensely irritated that they were taking over the news cycle (again).
One, in particular, shared a very familiar shirtless photo of Jason in the stands at a football game, on X. "JASON KELCE MUST OFFICIATE THE WEDDING," they declared in the caption.
Apparently, the thought was one that others had in mind, too, with over 800 likes in under an hour on the social media upload conveying the idea was seemingly well-received.
Meanwhile, another felt the need to clarify the stipulations of holding such a role in the comment thread: "But in a [sic] dignified manner."
Still, as we see it, Jason is a pretty high contender for best man (he may even be the only candidate), but we'll just have to wait and see how the wedding party shapes up and what other celebrities will take part in the long-rumored ceremony.
As Parade reported, the couple shook the world with their joint announcement and sweet photos, captioned, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," after two years of dating-and loyal fans have been "literally shaking" ever since.
