Manchester City make progress in transfer talks, €30-35 million would get deal done

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are closing in on the signature of PSG outcast Gianluigi Donnarumma.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have made significant progress in talks with PSG to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian international was one of the mainstays of the French club until last season, but he is no longer in their plans.

With PSG ready to sell, City are making moves to sign the AC Milan graduate, who will replace the outgoing Ederson. The move depends on the Brazilian international’s potential move to Galatasaray.

Donnarumma came up the ranks at Milan and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining PSG in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer. While he was an undisputed starter for them during his time at the club, and even helped them win the treble last season, he has now gone down the pecking order.

The 26-year-old has reportedly lost his place in the team following a rift with manager Luis Enrique. PSG have already signed Lucas Chevalier to take over as their new number one, and they are actively looking to offload Donnarumma.

While multiple top clubs have showcased interest in the Italian international, Manchester City have been the most serious suitor so far. Pep Guardiola’s team have already re-signed James Trafford, but they are still in the market for a new goalkeeper as Ederson looks set for a move away.

Donnarumma could be heading to England

They want a proven shot-stopper to take his place in the team and have been in talks with PSG of late. Romano suggests City have made significant progress in talks. While the French giants were initially looking for €50 million, they have reduced their demands to just €30-35 million.

The asking price seems to be a bargain for a goalkeeper of his quality, and City have already stepped up their pursuit. The 26-year-old is keen on joining the Manchester-based giants. He would love to be a part of their project under Guardiola.

However, it all depends on Ederson’s exit. Galatasaray are in talks with City, as they look to sign the Brazilian international. If they manage to get it done, it will open the door for Donnarumma’s arrival.
