Carolina Panthers cut former Socastee High School standout

CHARLOTTE, NC (WMBF) - A Socastee High School alum and former Clemson star came up just short of making an NFL roster again.

The Carolina Panthers announced on Tuesday that the team cut veteran wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow’s release was part of a series of moves the Panthers made Tuesday to get to the initial 53-man roster limit.

Renfrow didn’t play in the NFL last year after the Las Vegas Raiders released him in March 2024.

WMBF News’ sister station in Charlotte, North Carolina, reports that Renfrow worked for ESS Industrial after being released. ESS Industrial is a large-scale recycling company in Woodruff, South Carolina.

Renfrow spent five years with the sliver and black after being drafted by the team in 2019.

His best season came in 2021, when he made 103 catches, earning him a Pro Bowl selection and the second-most receptions in a season by any Raiders receiver.

Before making it to the NFL, Renfrow played and went to Socastee High School.

He then made a name for himself at Clemson as a walk-on and was a part of two national championship-winning teams.
