Two former Michigan State standouts lost their NFL jobs in same roster cut

A pair of former Michigan State standouts were part of the same roster purge.

Linebacker Jacoby Windmon and running back Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams were among the 18 players the Carolina Panthers waived on Monday. Teams have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to reduce their rosters to the 53-man limit.

After going undrafted, Windmon had 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks in eight games with two starts for the Panthers as a rookie last season. Lynch-Adams spent one season with the Spartans before going undrafted in April.

Windmon, a former UNLV transfer, started all 11 games he appeared in over two seasons at Michigan State. He posted 64 tackles, including 12.5 for a loss, 6.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Windmon was the first Spartan named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week three times in one season in 2022 but he was suspended for the final four games that year for his role in the tunnel fight at Michigan. A season-ending shoulder injury limited him to three games the following year.

After going undrafted, Windmon landed with the Steelers before being signed to the Panthers’ active roster last season. He posted a career-high 10 tackles in a Week 17 loss to the Buccaneers.

Lynch-Adams, who topped 1,000 yards on the ground at UMass in 2023, joined the Spartans as a transfer last year and led the team with 133 carries for 649 yards to go with two touchdowns. He signed with the Panthers in May after not being picked in the draft.
