New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. has earned the right to call himself the best second baseman in the American League.
While it’s worth noting that Chisholm didn’t make the switch to second base from third until fairly deep into the season, it’s also important to acknowledge that Chisholm was playing third out of a willingness and desire to help his team, which hadn’t yet acquired Ryan McMahon.
Now that Chisholm is set in stone as New York’s second baseman of the present (and perhaps the future), it’s okay to compare him statistically to other second baseman around the AL, and such a thought experiment ends up favorably for Chisholm.
Entering Tuesday, Chisholm ranked first among AL second baseman in a handful of offensive categories, including home runs (25), RBIs (64), OPS (.827), slugging percentage (.492) and stolen bases (22).

The 27-year-old former Miami Marlin has made Yankees general manager Brian Cashman look wise for acquiring Chisholm last July.

Chisholm has become an integral part of a six-headed monster in New York’s lineup that also features Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham and Ben Rice, each of whom — along with Chisholm — had at least an .813 OPS or higher entering Tuesday.
How good can Chisholm become? Put it this way … while studs like Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte and Milwaukee Brewers’ Brice Turang will have something to say about it, Chisholm has the chance to snag the crown of best MLB second baseman in the near future, possibly as soon as this season.
