Real Betis have now reached an agreement in principle to sign Manchester United winger Antony, with the Brazilian winger on the verge of securing his long-desired return to Seville.
According to an update by Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, the La Liga club on the cusp of sealing a loan deal for the 2025/26 season, before eventually completing a permanent move for a player who cost Manchester United €100 million only three years ago.
Real Betis keep chasing Antony
The agreement in principle is straightforward: a season-long loan with Betis eventually securing Antony’s services on a permanent deal, possibly next summer. This cautious approach allows Real Betis to remain within their fair play budget while still adding a player of considerable quality to strengthen their European campaign.
Widespread reports have revealed that the Verdiblancos have already kept a non-EU spot free for Antony and even reserved a shirt number, highlighting their ambition to bring him back. For Antony himself, the motivation to return is clear. The Brazilian is pushing strongly for the move, convinced that Betis will provide the ideal environment to rediscover his best form ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
His family’s positive experience in Seville during his previous spell further strengthens his desire, though a significant obstacle remains in his salary demands. The Real Betis insiders have stressed that Antony must accept a pay cut if the deal is to progress, as the club will not break their wage structure.
Manchester United’s stance complicated matters. The Premier League club have been adamant that they prefer to secure a permanent sale. But with no such offers emerging, they have been forced to compromise.
A loan will at least get Antony’s wages off their books for a year and provide the player with much-needed game time, but the Premier League giants know they will be unlikely to recover much of their original €100 million outlay through such an arrangement.
Antony’s unwavering desire to return and Real Betis’s clear sporting project are reasons why the move is going through. With Manchester United having an agreement in principle with the Andalusian outfit, an initial loan move is on the cards for the 25-year-old Brazilian international.
