Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Manchester United appears uncertain after being overlooked in the first two matches of the Premier League season.
Manchester United fans take great pride in the football club’s tradition of developing and producing the best young players. From when Sir Matt Busby worked alongside Jimmy Murphy at Old Trafford, faith has always been shown in young players.
Sir Alex Ferguson carried those values with him after becoming United manager in 1986, before introducing the famous Class of 92’ in the 1990s, which brought plenty of success to the club.
United have an incredible record dating back to 1937 after naming at least one academy player in a matchday squad for a league match. The record is ongoing for more than 4,000 consecutive matches, with more than 250 players graduating from the academy to the first team.
The last players to come from the academy and really excite United fans in the first team are Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, but neither player has been able to work their way into Ruben Amorim’s plans.

After being overlooked in the first two games of the season, there are genuine questions over Mainoo’s future under Amorim.
Amorim stressed that Mainoo is competing with Bruno Fernandes for a place in the team, rather than Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro, but the Portuguese talisman is rarely rested for games.
Mainoo is not thought to fit Amorim’s preferred system and his absence from the line-up in recent weeks has led to lots of speculation.

Mainoo is also attracting attention from a host of Premier League clubs.
The report stresses that Mainoo is open to remaining at United, but he wants first team football and is open to a move that would promise Champions League football.
The report states that United are due to make a big call over Mainoo in the next 48 hours, before the transfer window shuts on Monday.
When is the next chance for Mainoo to play for Man Utd?
Mainoo will be in contention to play against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round on Wednesday night.
Amorim may take Fernandes out of the line-up to rest his captain ahead of the game against Burnley, especially after a difficult evening at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
If Mainoo is overlooked again, we can expect more speculation to flood the headlines for the rest of the transfer window.
Mainoo is expected to miss out on a place in the England squad for the upcoming international break.
