What once appeared to be a robust free agent market for Russell Westbrook has now apparently narrowed down to two clear options. NBA insider Jake Fischer reported last week that the Sacramento Kings were the only landing spot for the nine-time All-Star if he is in the league at all.

The New York Knicks were reportedly interested in Westbrook earlier this summer, but all has been quiet on that front for a while, so now the options are incredibly thin. The Kings have desperately been trying to trade shooting guard Malik Monk, which would open a roster spot and the cap space necessary to sign the former MVP.

There hasn’t been much interest in a Monk trade around the league, so the prospects of Westbrook playing appeared to be thin. But either a mystery team is at play, or Westbrook knows some inside information that we don’t after he was spotted getting up some shots on a yacht.

The explosive point guard spent last season with the Denver Nuggets, a place where the fanbase fell in love with him and he was pivotal in the team’s first-round victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. It’s unclear why Westbrook hasn’t generated much of a market in free agency, but it could be the amount of money he’s seeking as he’s played the last two seasons just above the veteran’s minimum.

The Oklahoma City Thunder legend was perceived as being on one of the best value contracts in the association, so it would only make sense if his asking price is holding him up from joining a new club. With the season less than two months away, Westbrook is staying ready as training camp will begin in a few short weeks.

The triple-double king may not be on a team yet, but he won’t let that stop him from being prepared.
