Newcastle United are preparing a new bid of around £55million for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The Molineux club insist the Norwegian is not for sale but the 25-year-old is keen on the move after stepping off the bench to fire his current side past West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Strand Larsen, who joined Wolves permanently from Celta Vigo last month after an initial loan, struck twice in the space of two minutes late on to secure a 3-2 second-round victory at Molineux.

His quickfire double overturned West Ham's lead and piled the pressure on manager Graham Potter, whose side have now lost all three of their opening matches this season.

Rodrigo Gomes had earlier put Wolves in front after Hwang Hee-chan's penalty hit the post, only for Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta to turn the tie on its head with goals after the break.

But Strand Larsen's decisive intervention ensured Vítor Pereira's side progressed to the third round and gave another reminder of why Newcastle are keen to sign him.

Eddie Howe is keen to bring in the Wolves forward, with Newcastle in need of reinforcements

The Magpies saw a £50m bid rejected earlier this week but are ready to return with an improved £55m offer before Monday's transfer deadline.

Strand Larsen netted 14 goals in the Premier League last season and Wolves know losing him now could be damaging in their fight for top-flight survival.

Newcastle are interested in Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, although progress has been slow.

The Bees rejected a £40m offer earlier in the summer and are understood to want in excess of £50m.

Wissa has not featured since talks began and recently deleted all mention of Brentford from his social media accounts.

Newcastle's push for reinforcements comes amid continued uncertainty over Alexander Isak's future.

The Swedish striker has refused to train or play in a bid to force through a move to Liverpool, who have already seen a £110m offer rejected.

Newcastle have been clear they want to keep the 25-year-old, but the saga has cast a shadow over their start to the new season.

Co-owner Jamie Reuben and a PIF delegation, including director Jacobo Solis, held talks with Isak at his home in Northumberland on Monday in an attempt to persuade him to commit to Eddie Howe's squad. A new contract could even be part of the discussions if he agrees to stay.
