Man Utd talent 'really pleased' Ruben Amorim in pre-season, now could be set for Europa League side on loan - Journalist

Manchester United have a lot of work to do in the final six days of the 2025/26 summer transfer window.

After an expensive summer on the incomings front, Manchester United have been far less busy on the outgoing front.

Marcus Rashford has moved to Barcelona on loan, which is the only permanent first team player to make a move away this summer.

Meanwhile, Toby Collyer joined West Brom on loan for the season in the Championship, similarly Radek Vitek is at Bristol City.

With just days remaining, United still need to find solutions for Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Tyrell Malacia, who are all surplus to requirements.

At the same time, some youngsters who have been in and around the first-team will also be likely to head on loan such as Harry Amass, and now another talent is being eyed up.

Ethan Williams wanted on loan by HNK Rijeka in Croatia

This season is a bit of an anomaly for Manchester United with no European fixtures to account for and so a smaller squad is needed.

As a result, this will likely see some youngsters who might’ve have been in Amorim’s plans, to head on loan for minutes before returning next summer, hopefully as options.

Ethan Williams fits into this category, with the winger impressing over the summer, earning a spot on tour, but nowhere to be seen since.

Now, Alex Crook from talkSPORT has reported that Williams is now being targeted on loan by Croatian champions HNK Rijeka who are playing PAOK for a place in the Europa League this week.

Williams would get first team football in abundance for the Croatian outfit who haven’t had a dream start to the 2025/26 season and are clearly looking for additions.

Moving to Rijeka would be a massive upgrade for Williams who impressed at Cheltenham last season on loan. It would also see Williams follow in Dylan Levitt’s footsteps, with the former United academy talent spending time with NK Istra on loan in Croatia.

Following one performance for the League Two side, Williams’ manager predicted he was good enough for United right now, and the 19-year-old proved he may be during pre-season.

Ruben Amorim will have been impressed by Ethan Williams during pre-season

Williams was a late inclusion in United’s pre-season squad, and he grabbed his opportunity with both hands, scoring against Bournemouth.

After his goal in pre-season, Amorim admitted he was really pleased with Williams and the other youngsters for their contributions.

“I celebrate that goal. The reason I celebrate is because I really like to see the kids who work really well during training. They press, they fight so I am really pleased with them, they controlled the game and tried to score more goals.”

Amorim was clearly delighted with Williams, and it remains to be seen if he will get an opportunity in this week’s Carabao Cup game against Grimsby, or whether the loan will accelerate.

If this goes through, it is very exciting for Williams, and should give him an excellent platform to excel at a high level.
