Chargers Get Massive Update on Najee Harris' Week 1 Availability

The Los Angeles Chargers have received a massive update on the health of running back Najee Harris.

Harris has not practiced through training camp due to suffering a superficial injury to his eye on July 4. He was placed on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) ahead of training camp, though he has been ramping up his workload in recent days.

Now, the Chargers have received a massive update on his Week 1 availability.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Chargers have removed Harris from the NFI list, which means he should be ready to play in Week 1.

"The #Charger sare moving RB Najee Harris to the active roster from the non-football injury list, per me and @TomPelissero. Harris is recovering from injuries, facial and otherwise, sustained in a fireworks accident but has been working and getting ready. A good sign," Rapoport stated on X.

Though this post does not guarantee that Harris will suit up for Week 1, it is a huge step in the right direction. It might be a safe bet to assume that he will be ready to go once the start of the regular season happens.

The Chargers offense should be far more dangerous with Harris on the field, as offensive coordinator Greg Roman favors a bruising-like run game. J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards helped jump-start this new offensive style in 2024.

Harris would presumably share touches with Omarion Hampton, who was drafted by the Chargers in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of North Carolina.

Hampton and Harris could form another solid duo, but that will be up to Harris being ready to play against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. The game will take place on September 5 in Brazil.

Though Harris is not confirmed to be ready to play, this update points to his potentially being ready to go.
