**SUNDERLAND** (4-4-2):
6 **Patterson**: Had a quiet evening, but couldn’t get close to any of Huddersfield’s six successful spot-kicks
5 **Huggins**: Was perhaps unfortunate that his headed clearance led to Castledine’s goal, but didn’t offer a lot going forward before being replaced at half-time
5 **Mukiele**: Wasn’t really troubled defensively on his debut, but wasted a great chance when he flashed a diving header wide of the target
6 **Masuaku**: Didn’t have a lot to do in terms of defending, but used the ball when we he had it
6 **H Jones**: Could be satisfied with his evening’s work on the left of the Sunderland back four
4 **Rigg**: Was wasted out on the right touchline, and failed to make the most of a couple of late opportunities that came his way
6 **Neil**: Kept things ticking over at the heart of midfield and became increasingly influential as the night went on
5 **Le Fee**: Saw plenty of the ball, but was trying far too hard on a number of occasions instead of keeping it simple
4 **Roberts**: Failed to ask any serious questions of the Huddersfield defence – didn’t take his chance to shine
6 **Isidor**: Showed plenty of willing, but this wasn’t a night when the striker was able to show off his skills in the 18-yard box
6 **GUIU**: Showed some nice technique in the 18-yard box and took his goal well with a clinical header
**Subs**:
6 **Jenson Jones** (for Huggins, 46): Tried to get forward down the right-hand side whenever possible
Aleksic (for Isidor, 78)
Seelt (for Mukiele, 78)
(not used): Moore (gk), Jaydon Jones, Whittaker, Middlemas, Tutierov, Abdullahi.
**HUDDERSFIELD** (4-2-3-1):
Nicholls 7; Gooch 8, **WHATMOUGH** 8, Wallace 8, Roughan 8; Kasumu 7, Vost 7 (Kane 90+9); Charles 7 (Radulovic 90+9), Castledine 7 (Wiles 67, 6), Ashia 7 (Sway 75); Taylor 6 (Harness 75).

**Man Of The Match: JACK WHATMOUGH** – The Huddersfield centre-half delivered an excellent performance to help keep Sunderland out.
