Exclusive: Newcastle and Everton among Premier League clubs monitoring £33m England international

TBR Football understand Newcastle and Everton could make a late attempt to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

The England international is a popular man as we approach the transfer deadline on Monday, with as many as six Premier League clubs monitoring his situation in the final week of the window.

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent for TBR Football – can now confirm the other four sides who could move for Conor Gallagher aside from Newcastle and Everton.

Sources have informed TBR Football that the Atletico No.4 is a wanted man.

We understand West Ham are also interested in Gallagher as Graham Potter desperately searches for a new central midfielder.

The Hammers were pushing to sign Mateus Fernandes from Southampton, but are struggling to strike an agreement.

Crystal Palace are also keen on Gallagher – who Atletico Madrid signed in a £33m move from Chelsea back in August 2024.

The man born in Epsom spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Selhurst Park, winning the Player of the Season award after scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 34 Premier League appearances.

TBR Football understand Manchester United are also considering Gallagher, after deciding against an expensive move for Carlos Baleba this summer.

Should Tottenham sell Yves Bissouma, the 25-year-old is an option for Spurs too, who have admired the Chelsea academy graduate for a number of years.

Bailey says: “West Ham are obviously inquiring about every midfielder on the planet. They seem to be interested in Conor Gallagher. Palace love him. He’s got that history there. It’s an interesting one.

“Don’t rule Newcastle out of this either, especially since they’ve lost Joelinton and Sandro Tonali (to injuries). If they lost Bissouma, could Tottenham come into it? Possibly.

“I’d keep an eye on Newcastle, and I think there are quite a lot of Premier League clubs interested in him. I wouldn’t rule Everton out either. I think half the Premier League have inquired about him, asked about him. Manchester United will be aware of him too.”

What Conor Gallagher has already said about Crystal Palace

As Bailey mentions, Gallagher has “history” with Crystal Palace, and seemed to love his time in SE25.

After returning to Chelsea following the end of his loan spell at Selhurst Park, the Londoner said: “I am so proud to have been part of this team.

“From my first contact with Patrick (Vieira) he’s been brilliant with me and helped me develop into a better player. The players and staff have made me feel like I’ve been here for years and the fans have made me feel so at home. Your support helped us in tough games.

“It’s just been unreal. I’ve loved every minute of it. I’m speechless just because I’ve loved it so much. I’m so happy that I was able to play for Palace this season.”

Gallagher even paid respect to Crystal Palace when scoring against them for Chelsea.

When asked why he opted not to celebrate after netting a late winner at Selhurst Park in October 2022, the central midfielder said: “I have too much respect for the club for what they done for me last season.”

Of course, it should be noted that this does not necessarily mean Gallagher is definitely heading to Crystal Palace – although his respect for the south Londoners is evident.
