Ex-Lions defensive linemen among final cuts at NFL roster deadline by Giants

Another pair of former Detroit Lions have been cut from NFL rosters at the deadline on Tuesday as defensive linemen Jeremiah Ledbetter and Cory Durden each found themselves on the wrong side of the New York Giants’ 53-man cutoff point.

Ledbetter was released from the organization after signing a deal with the Giants in March.

Originally a sixth-round pick in 2017 out of Arkansas, Ledbetter began his NFL career with the Lions. He lasted just one season with the Lions, playing in 16 games and notching 14 total tackles and four QB hits, before being waived after his second training camp.

Ledbetter would proceed to have two stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing in four games while mixing in time on their practice squad and the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad.

After a brief spell with the Arizona Cardinals, Ledbetter earned his largest role with the Jacksonville Jaguars, beginning on the practice squad and eventually playing 33 games over three seasons for the active roster.

Before signing with the Giants this offseason, Ledbetter totaled 62 tackles, nine tackles for loss, six QB hits and two sacks with the Jaguars.

Durden only had a brief time with the Lions after going undrafted in 2023 and signing with the organization. He was waived at the roster deadline and moved over to the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad.

In his rookie season, Durden was promoted to the Rams’ active roster and played in four games, totaling three tackles before heading back to the practice squad.

He would eventually sign with the Giants off of the Rams’ practice squad in December 2024 and got another four games under his belt, amassing 10 tackles and one tackle for loss.

Now Ledbetter and Durden will hope to catch on with another team, likely on a practice squad to try and earn a promotion to an active roster.
