Tuesday night will not be one Leeds United fans will want to relive. After suffering a humble defeat at the hands of Arsenal, the game against Sheffield Wednesday was the perfect opportunity to bounce back.
And with Owls boss Henrik Pederson saying he would rotate most of his team, it looked like an easy matchup. Sheffield Wednesday started a bunch of U21 players. But on the night, they matched Leeds’ starters. Daniel Farke handed debuts to Jaka Bijol and Noah Okafor among other new signings.

The Whites will be kicking themselves that they did not win the game after they created so many chances in the second half. However, the finishing on display was very poor, especially from Dominic Calvert-Lewin who looked sloppy on his first appearance.
The game went to penalties, and Leeds failed to convert a single one as the Owls progressed to the next round.

Despite the embarrassing exit on penalties, Daniel Farke saw some positives from the game. He thinks Leeds’ new boys Sebastiaan Bornauw and Jaka Bijol did a pretty good job on the night.
“Yes of course there were some players who did well out there tonight. It is easy to think we lost the game so everyone must have played bad, but that was not the case.
“I thought Sebastiaan (Bornauw) was very good after so long out injured. Defensively I did not thing he did many things wrong and was tidy throughout the game.
“Jaka (Bijol) also impressed again after such a time out. He was very good in the air and did what he needed to at the back, it was a solid performance from him.
“In all at the back I thought we were very good but in offence there was obvious improvements that we need to make. This will come with time and more minutes together will only help.”
Daniel Farke will be hoping his defence will put up a much better showing when Leeds host Newcastle this weekend.
