Patriots 2024 Second-Round Pick Out for Season, Per Reports

The New England Patriots offensive skill group apparently has lostwide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk for the entirety of the upcoming season.

According to multiple reports, Polk was placed on injured reserve without a designated to return tag. This rules him out from returning at all this season despite how quickly he recovers.

"WR Ja'Lynn Polk and LB Jahlani Tavai have been placed on injured reserve," Mike Reiss wrote on X. He later followed it up by adding "Further context: LB Jahlani Tavai has been designated to return from IR, so he is still eligible to play in 2025. WR Ja'Lynn Polk was not designated for return, so he will miss the 2025 season."

Polk suffered his shoulder injury in the team's first preseason game this summer. Prior to his injury, there was a lot of speculation about whether he would even make the team given how poorly her performed last year as a rookie.

He is now the second player that was taken early in the draft by the Patriots in the last five years to not be a part of the team this year. Offensive lineman Cole Strange, a 2022 first-round pick, was officially released on Tuesday.

With Polk not being able to play this season, he will now be able to focus solely on getting healthy and bouncing back heading into training camp next summer. He has a long recovery ahead of him to work toward securing a roster spot with the Patriots.
