With NFL cut day, teams need to trim their roster from 90 players to 53-man for the regular season. The Indianapolis Colts have waived a former second-round pick to reach the limit of the 53-man roster for the 2025-26 season.
Indianapolis waived cornerback JuJu Brents, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. The reporter mentioned that the Colts attempted to trade the cornerback but decided to waive the player instead.
Brents has been injury-plagued in his first two seasons as a professional, playing in just 11 games. The CB also suffered an injury before the start of the 2025 preseason that forced him to miss the first two games.
Brents was able to play in the final preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he recorded 1 combined and 1 solo tackle.
In the 11 games he played for the Colts, Brents had 50 tackles, 6 pass deflections and one interception.

JuJu Brents was one of the players considered to receive a notable amount of the playing time at the cornerback position due to the number of injuries in the position group.
The only Colt cornerback guaranteed to be a starter is new signee Charvarius Ward, who signed a three-year deal in the offseason.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Brents said. “It’s been some, as everybody knows, some trial tribulations for me, but just blessed to be back. Back out there with the guys, to be able to compete at the highest level, make some plays.”
Indy recently signed four-time Pro Bowler Xavien Howard to reinforce the cornerback position after dealing with injuries.
Brents, the former 44th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, will now have to look elsewhere to have a career resurgence.
Beginning Somewhere Else

The beginning of JuJu Brents’ career could have started a lot better. But being forced out back-to-back seasons with injuries set him back. Being available is the main priority for teams and Brents’ body has been unable to do that.
Garafolo mentioned the Colts attempted to trade the cornerback, showing there is some interest in the now-former Colt.
Brents, who is only 25 years old, was named a non-starter player to know by ESPN before being waived by the Colts.
“Cornerback JuJu Brents. A 2023 second-round pick out of Kansas State, Brents hasn’t stayed healthy. He had a reasonable performance in half a season as a rookie, then made it into only two games last season. He’s a big (6-3) outside cornerback with long arms and press coverage ability, so he should get some playing time opposite Ward,” ESPN’s Aaron Schatz wrote.
Being on the waiver wire will allow teams to pick up JuJu Brents. If not claimed, he is free to pick to choose where he would like to continue the rest of his carer.
