Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler sentenced to jail following DUI arrest

FRANKLIN, Tenn. ([WSMV](https://www.wsmv.com/2025/08/26/former-nfl-quarterback-jay-cutler-gets-4-days-jail-loses-license-dui-franklin/)/Gray News) - A former NFL quarterback was in a Tennessee courtroom on Tuesday to take a plea deal in his DUI case from October of last year.

A Williamson County judge accepted a guilty plea from 42-year-old Jay Cutler and his attorneys.

Cutler was arrested on Oct. 17, 2024, after he rear-ended a blue GMC with his white Dodge Ram truck on Bridge Street.

An arrest affidavit from the Franklin Police Department that day described Cutler as visibly intoxicated. It stated that he offered the other driver $2,000 not to call the police and to let him drive away.

Franklin police officers said they also found a rifle and a loaded pistol in the center console of his truck.

Cutler was charged with driving under the influence, possessing a gun while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care and implied consent.

As part of the plea deal, the weapon possession charge was dismissed, and Cutler pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.

The 42-year-old also agreed to forfeit the pistol in the deal while being required to pay a $350 fine and serve four days at the Williamson County Jail beginning on Sept. 29.

Additionally, Cutler will be on unsupervised probation for one year and must attend a DUI safety class. His Tennessee license was also revoked.

Cutler played quarterback for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins during his 12 years in the NFL. He was the first-round pick of the Broncos in the 2006 NFL Draft, 11th overall.
