The Los Angeles Chargers waived two draft picks with Alabama football roots on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, each NFL team was required to reduce its preseason roster to 53 players on its regular-season active roster. On their way to getting there, the Chargers waived 2024 sixth-round pick Kimani Vidal and 2025 seventh-round pick Trikweze Bridges.
A former Troy running back, Vidal ran for 155 yards on 43 carries and caught five passes for 62 yards and a touchdown in 10 games for Los Angeles as a rookie.
Bridges is a former Lanett High School standout who played cornerback and safety at Florida.
Bridges and Vidal were among the 21 players from Alabama high schools and colleges (who did not play at Alabama or Auburn) that NFL teams waived on Tuesday. The others included:
Safety Will Brooks (Vestavia Hills) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Cornerback Cobee Bryant (Hillcrest-Evergreen) by the Atlanta Falcons
Wide receiver Malik Cunningham (Park Crossing) by the Baltimore Ravens

Offensive tackle Kadeem Telfort (UAB) by the Green Bay Packers
Nose tackle Bubba Thomas (South Alabama) by the Seattle Seahawks
Wide receiver Jeremiah Webb (South Alabama) by the New England Patriots
Brooks, Bryant, Johnson, Mayes, Muhammad, Powell, Pritchett, Robinson, Silmon-Craig and Thomas are undrafted rookies.
Martin had been a third-round pick by the Lions in the 2023 draft, but he had played in only five games in his two NFL seasons.
The waived players will have to wait until 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday to take their next steps in the NFL. The players can be claimed by other teams off the waiver wire until that time. If they go unclaimed, they become free agents.
At noon CDT Wednesday, NFL teams can start assembling their 16-player practice squads from the free agents.
